"How Do I Find My Way Around
Self-Help-Life-Blog.Com?"
A Question of Organization
One of the most challenging aspects in developing this site was in terms of its organization. Not only did I need to have an easy way for visitors to access all of the articles, books, quotes and stories that I had available but also all of the articles, books, quotes and stories that would continue to be added over time.
To solve this question of organization I decided that having more than one way to access information was the best route to take. As a result, there are 3 main ways for a visitor to find their way around Self-Help-Life-Blog.Com:
Through in-text links (links embedded within articles, etc)
Through a navigator bar that stays the same on each page
Through a site map that would serve as an index for the whole site
Having multiple links to particular sections and pages of the web site allows visitors to have a more seamless way to move through the site without having to access every page.
The Domains of Life
In regards to the site-map/index, I decided to borrow from the practice of astrology: specifically, from my 15+ year practice of Vedic astrology - the astrological system used in India for thousands of years. Like most astrological systems, the vedic astrological chart drawn up for a person (based upon their birth time) has 12 divisions each corresponding to the 12 signs of the zodiac. Each division is referred to as a "house" and each house represents specific areas or domains of life. For example, the 7th house represents matters pertaining to marriage and relationships whereas the 10th house refers to matters of career and profession.
Site Map
The site map for this web site is based upon a simplification of the 12 vedic astrological divisions. As a visitor, all you have to do is access the house that corresponds to the area of your life for which you would like help. Then, its just a matter of selecting the article, book or quote that will give you benefit.
